Welcome to the Children's Christian Learning Family Devotional! We are on a 10 part journey to learn about The Ten Commandments - The Super Law of God.
God gave us the Ten Commandments to show us how we should live. No matter how hard we try, we all break God's Commandments (Romans 3:23).
Yes! even Super heroes break God's Super Law.
Let's look at the Tenth Commandment........
“You shall not covet…anything that is your neighbour’s” (Exodus 20:17). Don't want what other people have.
Even before Jesus expanded the law of God, the Tenth Commandment added depth to all the other commandments by drawing attention to our hearts and motives. Coveting, and all sin begins in our hearts. Before someone steals, he wants what someone else has. Very few children are content with ten pieces of candy when the child next to him has eleven. Wanting what other people have is the same as greed . Whenever we want what others have, our lack of gratitude for what God has already given to us is shown to Him (Ephesians 5:5).
In coveting, a person breaks not only the Tenth, but also the First and Second Commandments. When he loves material things more than he loves God, he is setting his affections on the gift, rather than on the Giver. What father wouldn’t be grieved if his beloved child loved his toys more than the father who gave him the toys? A child should love his father first and foremost. He should love the giver more than the gift, and be content with what he has (Psalm 10:3), (James1:17).
Jesus Christ explained, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon” (Matthew 6:24). Worshipping wealth separates us from worshipping God. We need to work on accomplishing good, and not concentrate so much on wanting what everyone else has.
